Can anybody offer any advice. I've got a 1988 Four Winns 160 Freedom with a Cobra Outdrive. It appears that the seal between the boat and the outdrive is leaking. (pretty bad) any advice on how hard this will be to replace.

Thanks

Re: Outdirve Seal Leak

What seal are u referring to? If water is leaking into the bilge, the most likely cause is a tear in the u-joint bellows. You'll have to remove the drive to inspect the bellows. A leaking bellows can sink your boat not to mention ruining the gimbal bearing & u-joints, so it's not a repair that u can put off.

Re: Outdirve Seal Leak

sorry for the lack of info, first time owning a I/O. I just assumed there was a seal / gasket between the outdrive and the motor. You mentioned the leaking bellows, will this require the removal of the stern drive etc.???

The help is very much appreciated.... Thanks

Re: Outdirve Seal Leak

If you are actually leaking between the drive and the transom, most common cause for that is a rotten transom.

First thing to do though is to remove the drive and inspect the bellows first.
