I have been watching a fellow on the dock next to mine using his o'day 25 and his routine leaving the slip. I am very much impressed with the short time it takes him from getting on the boat to leaving the slip, he usually does it in about 10 minutes or less.
I have had sail boats up to 43 feet and envey the way this fellow can get his outboard engine going , remove the main cover and hoist the sail before he even backs out of the slip. On my 43 I had to step on my life raft enclosure then climb 2 steps up the mast just to attach the main halyard. It seems to me that for day sailing you are ahead of the game with a smaller sailboat , and the fun to expense ratio is also much better.
From my own experience with inboards and the maintenence required, life is a lot easier with the small outboard, which can also be raised out of the water when sailing reducing drag, and if it is a shallow draft boat you can get nearer the beach.
Any comments ?
Bill
