I;m looking to upgrade my outboard and was trying to find a value for the one I have. The NADA only shows 1996 motors as having 3 cyl. My 4 stroke 50hp has 4.

The serial # is 0G315548P.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Outboard Value

Either you have your engine model or the cylinder count confused, medic.

Nobody has made a 50hp 4 stroke with 4 cylinders, unless you count the Homelite/Bearcat 55s of the late 60s.

Re: Outboard Value

Not true JB.... he has a 4 cylinder, 4-stroke Mercury circa 1996. Serial Number: 0G315548 Model Number: 1F50412SD.

As for its value, I cannot speculate. So many variables, such as hours of use, salt water, maintenance, abuse etc...

Re: Outboard Value

Hmmmmm. Where is the error, AMD?

Did Brunswick/Yamaha make both 3 and 4 cylinder 50HP 4 strokes in 1996?
Is NADA wrong in listing the '96 50hp as a 3 cylinder?
Is his engine not a 50hp?

The model number you give does not match the style of model numbers in the NADA Guide. Is that the problem?

The error is that one may mistakenly assume NADA has 100% accurate/complete information. They did make 3cyl 50 Mercury 2-stroke motors .... BUT.... they also made 4cyl 50hp 4-stroke motors that year. Nada simply may not record that fact. The fact is, the Mercury website validates that Mercury did build the 4 cylinder 4-stroke, and also the 3 cylinder 2-stroke in the same year.

And Dan....$50 bid... lol... I think thats just a bit low :)

Re: Outboard Value

So let me get this straight.

NADA lists a 50HP 4 stroke, 3 cylinder engine, Model 50ELPT, and a 2 stroke, 3 cylinder engine, Model ELPTO in 1996.

The 50ELPT 4 stroke is not a 3 cylinder, but a 4 cylinder. NADA error. Correct?

Re: Outboard Value

Thanks for the clarification.

Still curious about value. I've only had it 1 year, always freshwater. As far as I am aware, the last owner ( In IA) only had it in freshwater as well. Recently sync'd carbs at tune up. Runs good. Starts well.

Re: Outboard Value

i think in my market, being 11 years old, and a 4 stroke. 2,000 - 2500 would be realistic. if it's is in top notch shape and cosmetics. cosmetics really hurt here. i'd keep this over that 90 that needs to be rebuilt.
