Hello All,

My older outboard does not have an automatic up/down trim so I have to trim it manually. I have been playing with the settings for a while now and have come to the conclusion that I get the best preformace out of it is by trimming it high (please se picture) however in tight turns I can hear the outboard getting louder untill the boat dosent get streightned out, its almost like its out of the water but when I turn around and see I can clearly see it in the water and can see the waterpump working and gushung water out of the outboard. Any advice ? should I trim it down a little or leave it?

I would imagine that you have a pretty bad hole shot with it that high.

Holeshot is nothing more that the time it takes you to get on plane and up to speed from a dead stop. With your motor trimmed that way I would imagine that it runs great once you get up on plane. That noise you hear is the prop getting closer to the surface of the water and the rpm increasing. Most likely should be trimmed down just a bit but that might be somewhere in between the settings you have. I run a 75 hp tiller. I start with the motor trimmed down and as I get on plane and up to speed trim it up until the steering is very easy and I'm at WOT. (within the range of the motor) At this point I'm not plowing any water as the bow is up. Of course I have unlimited angles with power trim. You just don't want to over rev your engine with to much vertical trim. Good luck, have fun.

Re: Outboard Trim

Thanks for the explanation... It actually doesn't take that long to get to top speed maybe 7-10 seconds. (Maybe that is long for you guys ) I have a very light 16 ft aluminum boat and this 50HP outboard can push it about 34mp/h with this setting. I will take your advice and trim it down one setting. It will still give me top speed of 30-31mp/h
