I have a 95 Johnson 40 short shaft I'm thinking about converting to long shaft via extension.... Looking on the parts diagram they not showing an option for this....i did find one on bayMfg.com but just wondering....does this motor not have a factory extension option.... / Why not?

The parts you'll need don't seem to be available in "kit" form but the individual parts are available. I found most at marineengine.com.

Best option is to buy a blown 40-50hp longshaft of that era and use the parts to convert it. Converting it piecemeal will involve disassembling the lower unit to exchange driveshafts.... Finding a blown longshaft motor just means swapping the powerhead.

Agree +1 on the above or go to Bay Mfg.
