My dad has a 198617ft semi-v tracker. Currently has a 60hp 3 cyl 2 stroke mercury on it. The bottom cylinder has some cracks in the exhaust port. Don't think its worth rebuilding again (this power head is a reman from years ago) so I found a 97 evinrude spl 90 hp long shaft motor with controls for $1500. Question is, it should take a long shaft motor correct? And are these decent motors compared to the merc thats on there now? Thanks!!

That boat should have a longshaft transom. Measure it. It should be about 20" from top to bottom.

A 90HP Johnnyrude will be a V4. Both the 90* and 60* blocks are good designs. Hopefully the boat is rated for that power.

You will need new controls and engine wiring.

I believe the boat is only rated for 60hp

Much better motor than the mercury but i will always go with omc, or evinrude johnson if you prefer that.
