Hey all,

Had an I/O in my previous (and first) boat. Picking up a new (to me) boat Saturday, 23' wellcraft WA which has a 200HP Ocean Pro. Just had some general questions.

Any quirks or common issues with this engine? It has 218 hours on it, and is a 1997 model. Owner has full professional maintence records. Did a sea trial and it ran nice. It has some type of system which provides a high-idle on startup. What is this?

Just out of curiousity, how much of an increase in gas consumption can I expect going from my 19' 140hp i/o to this 23' 200hp outboard? I am expecting about twice the consumption at cruise, is that about right?

Any comments, suggestions or experiences with this setup are welcomed.

Thanks!

The "quick start" system is activated everytime you start that motor. It advances the timing about 4° for about 5 seconds after the motor is started, then will remain on until the motor temp is about 120° F. You also have "SLOW" which will limit RPMs to about 2000 if it senses high temp or low oil. You can expect to burn nearly 20 gallons/hr at WOT (appx 5500 rpm if set up correctly), and probably around 10-12 gal/hr cruisin at 3800-4000 rpm.
Good luck

There's no doubt that it loves gas and oil. I have a 2000 200hp and angus is pretty right on, about 12 to 13 at cruising. They smoke a lot at idle also, don't let it concern you. Damn good motor. Good luck.
