just wondering...i'm looking for an inexpensive boat larger than the one i have, in the range of 17'-18'. i have a nice motor now. the boats i've seen in that range all seem to have problem inboards. is it possible/practical to just remove the inboard motor and use that space for storage/livewell or whatever, and mount an outboard on the back?
i haven't really started seriously looking yet. my first thought is that maybe they don't even have a transom. any thoughts?

you would first have to patch or replace the transom, due to the cut out. hang a motor bracket, which throws the balance off on the boat. it has been done many times. most who do it are not happy with the results.

what type of 17-18' boat are you looking for? Because there are tons of outboard boats of that size out there. Also, I'm sure you could find one without a motor on it, in which case, you could put yours on there.
