I just picked up a boat for free. No motor. I'm new to outboards so I need a little advice. The boats in good shape, it's a 1971 Thunderbird 16 ft trihull. It has Johnson cable controls that seem to work well. Would the cables bolt up to any brand of motor or do I have to find a Johnson. Modifications to the controls would be fine if it's simple. I got a good deal on a 90's 40hp Evinrude. Would this setup work? Is the motor big enough for getting me around the bay? Any help would be appreciated..

Thanks
Warren

Re: Outboard motor install

A Johnson/Evinrude motor will work with control box and cables...40hp is a little small but will work. A 60-75hp will do better...just a Thought
