Re: outboard motor ID

Well, just a wild guess based on my extrasensory powers, but I would say it is a Chrysler.

Re: outboard motor ID

Chrysler about 8 to 15 horsepower--they all looked the same and used the same parts. 8 HP used a smaller prop shaft and propeller and the hood was slightly smaller. 9.2 to 15 were all the same components with slightly different porting and bore and stroke. All other components are swappable. Year: Late '60s to late '70s. That's about as close as I can get.

Since the engine has a 5 inch spacer to make it a long shaft, and assuming it has not been retro-fit, AND since it has a two blade prop. My guess would be 8-9.9, and late '60sto early '70s. Read the numbers on the prop blade or hub. They will tell you the diameter and pitch. From that you can get a closer idea of horsepower.

Some people are real wizzards and are way too much help and shouldn't answer if they can't help.
Frank was right 60's and 70's look in front of the motor under the carb area there should be a metal tag with the info on it.J

Well, if there have been no replies and you want it back at the top you can simply "Bump" it or you can fish for a smile. I do not agree that bumping an unanswered thread to the top is not helping.

Re: outboard motor ID

first off, thanks for the warm welcome......I also appreciate the knowledgeable information you given me about my motor. I scoured the inside compartment of this motor throughly and unfortunately ,I can't find a tag. For the sake of ordering the correct parts, is there any other way to id this motor....

Re: outboard motor ID

There's an antique outboard motor site refered to frequently here. Go there and ask. As far as immediate needs, per Frank, all the external parts are swappable in the yrs. mentioned. Internal parts will need specific yr. Good luck at aom---

Re: outboard motor ID

Small prop--definitely not a 15 more likely an 8 or possibly a 9.2. Most likely not a 9.9 either.

Prop: I have an 8 X 5 that is for an 8HP.

Prop shaft: 9 splines it is an 8 HP, 10 splines 9.9-15. Not sure about the 9.2
