I am getting a Princecraft 162 backtroller boat and I need to get a motor. I am limited to 30 horsepower on the lake I go to.

I had a tremendous experience with my Honda 25 horse for 5 years..never had to touch it other than oil changes - winterizing etc.

I am wondering what your feelings are on the Merc 30 EFI. Is EFI a big enough deal to give up the dependability of my Honda? Is a Yamaha as good of a choice? Suzuki?

The important thing to me is dependability, smooth trolling, quietness...in that order.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

Mike

Re: Outboard motor choice

Yup, you got it...

As a test, after you have tested the compression, squirt alittle oil into the plug hole and do the test again...

don't put too much oil in, just alittle, you don't want to force oil into the tester...

see what the difference is...

also, you hooked up to fuel when you are doing the test??? If the bore is dry and the bearings are dry.. and you are turning over the engine alot, then you are not doing your engine any good... (also your readings will not be very good.)

Hook it up to premix so it can suck some fuel down for lube purposes...

rgds

Franki

Weird, I just had a glitch..

I posted to one question and it appeared here...

strange..

rgds

Franki

Ps about your question.. more important to find a dealer in one of your brand choises that you trust in your area...

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.. but make sure you have a reputable dealer for it..
