I am trying to change out the lower end skeg of my 1992 Force 120hp outboard. I have it off and somewhat apart and now I am trying to determine how I remove the large inner nut that holds the top down shaft and the prop shaft in place. Do I need a special tool, or do I tap one of the teeth with a mallet and screwdriver, or?

Force 120hp Outboard
Serial # OEO62505

Thank you for your help,

Adam

You can make a spanner from a flat piece of steel and use that but I don't bother. A large screwdriver and regular hammer usually does the trick. Just be sure to bend up the locking tab on the retainer first.
