Outboard Losing Fuel Pressure

I have a 15 hp Gamefisher outboard that dies after a minute or two when going faster than idle speed. If I keep pumping the bulb while the motor is running, it runs fine, so it is definitely some kind of pressure related problem. I replaced some of the fittings and the bulb recently. Any ideas? Thanks

If your tank vent is open and unobstructed, it sounds like the fuel pump may be getting weak or the filter is plugged.

Not uncommon for a fuel pump to fail as it heats up. If lines are clear, check the pump.

don't know the year, but some gamefishers used tecumseh engines which had a rubber sock for a fuel pump built into carb base.
If you can't find external pump, look there.

It is an '82-'83 made by Tecumseh. So do I just take the carb assembly apart to get to the "rubber sock"?

Hi JZ
Follow the fuel line from the quick coupler. Does it go directly to a square type fuel pump mounted externally, or does it appear to go directly to the carb?
Good luck
:)

Hey Guys,
That carb uses both. There's a flapper valve under the fuel inlet & the rubber "sock" which can only be accessed by carb removal. ;)
Backlash

I took the carb assemb. off and checked everything out, everything looks good, including the "rubber sock". I'm stumped. I hate to replace the whole carb. and still have the same problem.

Any air leak from the tank to engine will cause your grief. I'd run a temporary hose with primer ball. Stick it right in tank through filler neck. Connect other end to carb. this will bypass several leak potentials. Don't be replacing carb....

If you go to www.sears.com and put in your model number it will bring up parts book and diagram. Pump is on side of carbuator.
