Outboard jet height

I am hoping someone might be able to shine a light on my outboard jet problem. I am trying to see how high to mount it. I know that on a flat bottom boat the instructions call for the leading edge of the foot to be level with the bottom of the boat. My problem is I have a semi-v so the back end isn't quite flat. With the slight rise I was thinking that my motor should be mounted higher up then it would be on a flat bottom. If anyone has any insight or experience with this please help. I hope this is the right section to post this. Thanks.

Re: Outboard jet height

Those drives QUICKLY tell you when you are too high. They stop pushing water & SCREAM.
Not the greatest thing to lose water inlet supply AT WOT.
Hope you have a RPM limiter. Out board jet motors SHOULD have reving limiters. Shifting to NEUTRAL at full load is very abusive to any engine.

We had guys putting those pumps on lots of shallow boats. Untill they needed motor block rebuilds several times a year.

How high is also determined by your fastest speed in rough water.

They are FANTASTIC for sliding over NON WEEDY shallows slowly. The weeds in N J ponds really were tough to unwrap sometimes.

The VEE is going to "dig" out more water than a flat bottom so if anything, you would want to mount the inlet slightly lower.

Re: Outboard jet height

Like C2 said, they are very sensitive to mounting height, and each hull design will be different. The best thing to do is mount it about even with bottom of the V and move up and down about 1/4 of an inch to see what happens, if you can move it up 1/4 and it still performs well, then move it up another 1/4" and try it again. Frequently flat bottom boats need the pump mounted deeper because more air can be trapped under the hull and get sucked into the pump.

What degree hull do you have?

Re: Outboard jet height

I believe my hull is a 6 or 7 degree rise. Real subtle and supposedly perfect for handling a jet in turns. I will try mounting the motor this weekend on the cmc jack plate I bought. Hopefully I can find a happy medium and then just raise and lower as needed to figure ride height. Thanks.
