Outboard identification help

Hi, I've just purchased this used outboard and was told it was a 1998 Honda 5hp long motor.

I know its a 4 stroke, because it has a oil dip stick to check oil level.

It was really cheap, so I took a gamble with it. Upon getting it home, I had a closer look and it has no tags on it indicating make, model, etc..
Can anybody identify it by viewing the photos.
Really appreciate any help.
I'm thinking I need to know the make, model, and HP to buy parts for it if needed.

Were HONDA motors ever painted BLACK???-----Do the HONDA motors use a cowling like that ???------I doubt it is a HONDA !!-----Post pictures of the powerhead with cowling ( cover ) off the motor.-----Should make it easy to ID.

I'm not sure about the color. I think the cowling has been re painted black at some stage. You can see where the paint is peeling off in small spots that its silver underneath.

Its got me stumped, all the searches online I've done have have come up empty.

You will find that serial number in a MERCURY parts book !

Perhaps made by TOHATSU and marketed as a MERCURY.
