Well its a long shot over a year in a half ago, so hopefuly you have an outboard by now and not sitting at your computer waiting for some on to ask! <br /> sailboats aremostly dispacement and semidisplacement! bigger boats are usualy displacment ie: tartan, island packet, swan, hicklery, ect ect. smaller boats usualy are semi displacement meaing with enoght horse power (6 in my case) you can semi plane
at 20 feet, 10 horse will almost get you on plane (were sayin this is a 2500 pound boat {ie mine
} so it may be different) a 6 horse will push me 7 miles an hour and a 3 horse will get me at 4.5 or 3 IE hull speed. this is why you can put a 100 horse motor on a tartan 26 then put it on a 50 yacht saying they are both displacement, the larger the boat the faster.<br /> for semi dispacement you can go faster.... <br /><br />never mind
