Wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there are modifications to redirect the exhaust away.

Boat is a 1996 Seaswirl Striper 1850 with a 99 Oprimax.

Even with no wind blowing and vessel moving over 5mph the exhaust seems to draw towards to cockpit.

I don’t know if its a boat or motor issue but guessing its the boat.

Here is link of short video of the issue.

Looks pretty normal. You likely have a following wind, as the design of the boat is standard and wouldn't pull exhaust gases into the cockpit.

You are lucky you have an optimax, as it is low emissions. You might make sure it is running properly, as smoke should be minimal, and fumes even less.

Exhaust smell (stink) while idling with the boat moving down wind is a 2 stroke "feature" that can be eliminated totally with a move to a 4 stroke. You would NOT be the first to do that for that reason - especially among pontoon boat owners.....

Perfectly normal for a two stroke.
The boat moving forward creates low pressure behind the windshield which pulls smoke into the cockpit.

I can eliminate most of it by opening the side vents on the windshield.

Switching to a 4 stroke eliminates the issue all together

I'm one of the Unique Individuals that actually likes the smell of 2-stroke exhaust.

However the others are right, if you want to get rid of the exhaust smell you may have to move to a four stroke

That makes sense. When I install the enclosure and vent air front to back its much less noticable.

My guess is I would still have the exhaust issue with a 4stroke?
just a minute fraction of the exhaust compared to a 2 stroke, you won't have the burning oil smoke. you have to decide if the $$ to repower is worth it.

You MIGHT notice something right after start up when the motor is rich after being choked. After it warms, I don't notice even a hint of smell.
