we are in the southern New Jersey shore area and wanted to know if there are any courses about outboard engine mechanics and being able to fix them, besides trial error and money.
we have always had an inboard v8 chrysler and know those engines mostly from doing the work but we got a grady white w/2 johnson 225s and these engines are a different animal. we had one engine seize last year and are trying to keep ahead and try to prevent it from happening again.

thanks
robc

robc, A good starting point would be to get a factory manual for your 225's.It will touch on the specifics of how to maintain your outboards as well as procedural repairs.

Re: Outboard engine training

robc, I recall someone saying that they attended an OMC training course at an OMC training center in Parsippany, NJ. It may have been 15 years ago.

Re: Outboard engine training

Do a web search for Marine Mechanic Training, or something similar. I do that a few months back. Seems like there are schools in Maine, Florida, Texas and Tennessee. Probably more, they just don't show up on the web yet. Also, find and ask certified techs who work at marinas, etc., where they got their training.
