out of gas 200 hpdi will not start

Refilled water sep filter added gas to tank, it will not fire
Any good ideas what I need to do

Find out if the pumps are working.
do they run?
Check/monitor fuel pressures
Running them dry may have toasted them

i'm going to use a small gas can and put the the fuel line in it and see if will start
I was told there is a shut off if there if water gets to the engine

never heard of that being something that was designed by Yamaha to shut off anything.
but a motor will not run on water, so if there was water in the fuel system it will not burn water

Do you have a computer on your outboard,if so borrow a laptop,buy the software and cable and diagnose problems and log maintance.

Its spark or fuel, replace all on motor fuel filters, there are very small fuel filters on fuel injectors if you have them.

See if you have suction on the fuel line before you put it in small gas can. If you have carbs, is there gas in the bowls?

Checking for spark is fast and easy with a spark checker, I make sure there's spark first before I look for any fuel problems.

Put some gas in a clear glass jar, se if it goes in the motor.
