OUT DRIVE PROBLEM....hurrrrry

I am trying to finish before earl hits me because I am on the coast. I have a mercruiser outdrive. alpha 1 gen 2. I replcaed my bellows and cant get my outdrive back on OR off. I have about an inch till it fits snug...gear is in forward...It wont go forward or come back out. I have to get off the island and can't drive like this....please help asap

You will probably get a faster response if you post in Mercruiser, OMC, Volvo & other I/O & Inboard Engines & Outdrives.

Either bump the prop or get a breaker bar and bump the flywheel pulley. Mine wouldn't go all the way on and the gears on the coupler weren't meshing with the splines on the u-joint/drive shaft. After I bumped the flywheel pulley, the drive just slid on.

Correction
THe crankshaft pulley. The crank is connected to the crankpulley on one end, and the flywheel on the other end.

If the drive won't go on fully, then bumping this pulley (the big pulley on the bottom of the front of the engine. This pulley drives all of the belts on the front of the engine.)
