Been out of touch for a while and looking for opinions/experience with various outboards. Several friends whose opinions I respect don't agree. Johnsons , Merc Offshores, Yamaha's, etc.. Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Out Board opinions

The highly respected opinions of this board seem to recommend Yamaha 4 strokes. Search the BB for similar postings.

You will find that there are a ton of different thoughts, it is the old Ford vs Chevy debate. Most agree that you should stay away from Force. I have had Mercs in the family my entire life. OMC, Yam, Zuk, are all respected brands. I would say your best bet is to find the brand that has the most local support in your area. Nothing works well if there is no one to fix it.

Hey On Guard; I think Kev is on the right track. If your not sure what you want try visiting your local boat shops. Talk to all in your area and make your decision based on where you will get the best service. With the exception of Force the selection isn't that important if you get service without being ripped off after the deal.

You wont find many like bad ones but as you can probably tell I got the short end about 20 years ago. We have bought 2new ones since but not from that clown.

Hope you find what you wantand Happy Boating. Hal :)
