Puttering around the Plattsburgh NY marina slips on Sat. looking at the boats. This was hard to miss. Doesn't look like it's that big a deal to repair as it appears that it's just the plastic cowling, but it still hurts my eyes to look at that poor outboard's damage.

I wonder how it happened? Looks like it's a newer rig and a late model Merc on it too.

If tilted down, it would be right about dock level.

That was my first thought too. Or a few too many beers and an inexperienced new owner  Probably didn't take that much of a whack to do that much damage to cheap plastic, yet it's probably like $1000 for a new plastic cowling cover (if that's what its called),

Maybe he just got frustrated with all of the dang snaps on that circus tent of a cover on that looney toon and took it out on the mid section? Just a guess...

Looks like it could be fiberglass. If so, it may cost less to rebuild it instead of buying a whole new part... Things aren't built like they use to...

It's definitely some sort of fibered material (not plastic). Around here though, guys would charge more than the part to repair/repaint it. :(

Ahh, I like the way you're thinking! I took a class at Sarasota Community College once that a classmate only took so he could learn how to repair the fiberglass fender on his F350.

looks like it was backed into it's stall with engine left trimmed in the water rubbing on the float at one point. that is nothing though. you guys ever near me, take a look around the docks. there are a lot of engines like that.

Maybe this could be a new commercial for that spray sealer that the guy sprays in the Jon boat with the floor replaced with a screen door and it stays floating... Could be...
