WINOOSKI, Vt. - It's not everyday you see a boat holding up traffic on I-89.

Police say a trailer and truck jacknifed, causing a boat to slide off and hit the guardrails. The guardrails weren't affected.

No one was hurt during the accident.

"I would just be conscious of the weight you're pulling when you use a truck to pull a boat," Vermont State Police SergeantMaurice Lamothe said. "This boat is rather heavy it's 23 feet, this gentleman is experienced, he pulls trailers all the time. I'm not sure what happened, but we do see a lot of boat trailer accidents this time of year."
A crane was used to remove the boat.
By the way, police say the boat didn't belong to the driver.

Traffic was smooth sailing again, pun intended, just before 2 p.m.

Is that the trailers reach/tongue and frame wrapped around the trailer?

I think it is a guide on piece of pvc....... What is very curious is the lack of straps on the trailer or the stern.

not curious at all.

a lot of hot shots don't use straps.

so, straps probably would have kept the trailer under the boat, and reduced the delay to 5 minutes or less.
and damage may have been limited to a grand.
who cares, it's not his boat.

Agreed... Proper keel rollers and side bunks, that would NOT have happened (even without stern straps :D).... And it looks more like the 'death wobbles' than a plain jack-knife to me. Caused by..... going too fast and/or having too little load on the hitch....

And why use a crane to remove the boat? :noidea: Just unhook the winch cable for the stranded boat. Move the rear of the trailer up to the front of the boat, hook the winch cable back onto and start winching (leave the car/truck out of gear and let the boat/winch pull the trailer in under the boat). 5 minutes later, drive away... Nothing happened, move on, nothing to see....

Makes more sense. Tough to imagine it jack-knifed. That would take some doin'...... Maybe it was a Shoreland'r....:D

So,,, I have a boat for sale with some minor cosmetic issues, runs great though and has trailer with good rubber.

Edit: Selling not allowed. ;)

What we can't see is the trailer tongue. I have a feeling the tongue has been pretzellized after that 23 footer was swinging around on the winch post.

Not sure why anyone would think it would have stayed on a bunk trailer. I've posted this before: it reminds me of an incident about 40 years ago when a trucker decided a D8 Cat with dozer didn't need to be chained down for a short trip.

This made me email my insurance agent to ask if a crane is covered if the boat falls off the trailer.

Simple safety measures can really help avoid being that guy. The comment about it not being his boat, ....priceless!!
I notice two things in all the pictures shared. No tie downs on the stern, and roller style trailers. I always tie her down when I trailer, and I have never owned a roller style trailer. Makes the guys who use pledge wax on the bunks of the trailer so she slides on easy, sure think twice I bet.

Buwahahahahahahahahahaha..........

(You don't think I was trying to sell the boat in the pic do you?)

Sorry Bubba... Bit of an iBoats joke. We're had a few people trying to sell boats on the forums (not allowed by the owners' request) and we've edited them with that statement. I just thought it might be a bit funny to do the same to your faux selling post.... My mistake.

Chris......
