I think I'm going to try carb cleaner to clean out an old Mitchell 300 reel. It hasn't been used in years and the handle can hardly be turned. Any plastics would be removed first, but I'm not sure there are any. <br /><br />I also wondered if carb cleaner would eliminate wasps on a nest since it has MEK in it. <br /><br />Anyone else found any alternate uses for carb cleaner?

I think I'd try something a little less potent to loosen it up. There are a number of good lite penetrating lubricants out there like LPS. I'd even saturate it with WD40 if that's what you have at hand. Once you free it up, then disassemble, flush it with BrakeKleen clean and relube with appropriate lube.

Man, I'd just about give anything to have a couple Mitchell 300's in good workin order. Do they even make those reels anymore?

Dump it into a bucket of Mavel Mystery Oil. The stuff will free just about anything.
