I am in search of any information on Orlando Clippers. I assume the manufacturer was Orlando Clipper however, I can not find any reference to them in the USA. I have a 1954 aluminum runabout and was told they had been made from jet aircraft aluminum recycled after the war. It appears the only previous owner was the Florida State Department of Natural Resources. Help?

Re: Orlando Clipper

The Orlando Clipper was built by The Orlando Boat Company in Orlando, Florida. My dad was the sales manager starting around 1962. At that time they only built alm. boats, but later added fiberglass models. They were located at the Herdon airport and later moved to Ocoee just west of Orlando next to Winter Garden.

Re: Orlando Clipper

I have a, what I beleive is a 1958 Orlando Clipper.

I bought from a guy who never got the title from the guy he got it from and can't find him. I am trying to track down the old owner but the DMV needs to know the hull number. The identification plate on the boat has only 3 numbers for the serial number.

Does your title/registration have a 12 digit Hull Identification Number? Maybe the ORLANDOCLP+3 numbers?

Please let me know, It will save me lots of time and effort if I can give them a 12 digit HIN.

Thanks, Mike

nice find. you may as well become a criminal like a lot of other Floridians, and register it home made. hull id numbers were not required until 1972. the State does not seem to understand their law. there are no provisions in the law for barn find, abandon boats. they only other thing you can do is get someone to sign an affidavit, that the boat was never register, and use only on a private lake. both makes us criminals.

Re: Orlando Clipper

Actually the HIN was federal.
However, I also have had problems with DMV.
I would call ahead of time and ask questions.

Re: Orlando Clipper

I will only use it on a private lake myself. So I don't really need one. I just thought it would be nice to have the boat titled properly.

The boat was last registered in 2007. I called DMV to see if they could tell me who the last registered owner was. They said the could not release that info, but I could file an abandoned claim and they would send a letter to the last registered owner and address. If they don't get a response within 90 days then I could go to court and ask a judge to get the boat title transferred over to me.

Seems like a headaches and expense along the way.

I have a friend that is a repo man, he can look up automobile tag info and get their info but doesn't have a vessel registration look up.

I am sure the Coast Guard could look up that info, but don't know anyone in there.

Maybe I should just go put in a busy public boat ramp and I am sure they will right me some violation, and maybe tell me the owners name. LOL

Re: Orlando Clipper

They are great boats.
Got ours in '59 new. Still have it.
They never did have serial or actual model numbers, this was called a "Zephyr".
New transom last year....new motor...the fourth in 40 years....oooops. 50 years. Nissan 40 HP....goes like a scalded cat....0-38 MPH. in about 10 feet.
On plane ~ 6" wake
Good ad here....http://www.theclassicboathouse.com/clipper.html

Re: Orlando Clipper

Great boats, My 1954 Orlando Clipper still floats, I've had it since I was 12 years old. Now registered in Georgia with no problem. Before that it was registered in Florida. It's a 14 foot v bottom open aluminum boat.

Re: Orlando Clipper

Hi GUYS!

It's nice to see I'm not the only one with one of these old boats! I have a 1956, just happens to be made the same year I was born, lol.

It has two live wells in it, they look "factory", in that they scoop fresh water in and siphon it back out with out any electrical power. I kinda figgured it was used to shrimp in... but you just never know.

I have modified mine for fishing, it does real well I think. If I think about it, I'll take some pics if anybody is interested.

Re: Orlando Clipper

Help! It's great to see other Clipper owners. I have a 16 footer that is in fair condition - serial number is 252 and I believe this boat was made in 1952. It is a backyard find and I'm curious about it. Does anyone know even what would be a fair price for the boat? It comes with a 16-foot trailer that works perfectly and what I've been told by an old motor geek is a 25 hp Evinrude.
If you have any info you can email me at EDIT

Re: Orlando Clipper

Good morning all,
I am looking for parts to restore a 12' 1960 Orlando Clipper "Aquabird" -
model # 48 12 6 72 ( that is the number stamped on the back, starboard side). My husband's father bought it for him brand new in 1960 on his fourteenth birthday and I would like to bring her back to her original condition for his 65th birthday in September. Here is what i am looking for... Windshield, gear shift and throttle, cables, decals, emblems, seat and back pads.

So, If there is anyone out there who can point me in the direction of these parts, I would be extremely grateful and appreciative... As would the little boy inside my husband!

Thanks your help,
Leanne
