When rebuilding the carbs on my 96 mercury, should I go with only OEM Mercury parts or is the Sierra kits the same? Also, should I replace the jets in each carb while I have them torn apart?

Re: Original Mercury OEM vs Aftermarket carb kits

The sierra kits are much easier to find and if they are equivalent in quality, then I guess it doesn't matter.

I noticed that the top three carbs require a .062 jet and the lower carb calls for an .064 jet. Is this normal? Should the jets be changed at rebuild or is that overkill?

Thanks,
Brad

Make doble sure that each jet goes back into its respective carb.

Merc has spent thousands of hours in determining proper jetting for every cyl.

Unless you have radiacally changed the basic motor, as in altering port timing, do NOT switch jets around without risking damaging your motor.

Jets are regularly cleaned and re-used.

OK, I will try to clean them and reuse them. I didn't know if they wore and needed to be replaced. That is good news. thanks charlieB.
