I belong to a NW Oregon/Washington fishing forum. A member there who privately fishes for tuna 30 miles off the Oregon Coast made an awesome amatuer video movie of his trips. It will get your heart beating for a piece of the action!

(it's a big download for dial ups but great for those on broadband. Dial ups should load it at night and watch it in the morning...it's well worth it. ;)

http://www.justkeepfishing.com/media/Tuna_2005.wmv

Now thats a great video...WOW. That is why I gave up freshwater fishing. Once you get a taste of the salt it is hard to beat.

HH

We do a little Tuna fishing also. Heres a pic of my largest so far. 138# Yellow Fin Tuna caught at the Midnight Lump off the mouth of the Mississippi River this past Febuary. Probably one of the best Tuna fisheries in the U.S.

Photobucket kinda ate the bottom of the pic a little. Oh well alls good.

Nice fish Reel Poor...makes the young Oregon tuna look like bait fish. I found out that the Oregon tuna are quite young and just beginning their journey on the warm Pacific currents to feed and grow. The large tuna processors left the NW and now buy their tuna from foreign fleets who get bigger, older fish. But apparently these younger Oregon tuna are good eating and highly sought after all over the world for their great flavor, texture and low levels of mercury.

I didn't realize that there were tuna in the gulf. How long did it take you to land that monster?

Re: Oregon Tuna Video

EZ It was really funny, that day we were catching quite a few large Tuna and they were stretching us out pretty good. One of the Tuna we caught was about 100# and was fought for about 45 minutes. This fish in the pic was ready to get in the boat I guess. Basically came in without a fight. All in all about 4 maybe 5 minutes, he was quite green at the boat though and the two guys that gaffed him (seprate gaffs) got beat-up a little. One suffered a cut on the cheek from the gaff handle, and the other hurt his back lifting him in the boat. Both guys were back in good fishing condition the next morning.

This is what we do during the winter months. Wont be long before we start now. Usually first or second week of January thru the end of March we fight those North winds to catch the big boys.
