So, I'm thinking of changing my throttle cable because my shifter seems to be extremely stiff and it makes it difficult when docking the boat. The first thing I am going to do is take my throttle shifter apart and check if it's dried out and it's just a grease problem, but if it isn't and I'm already in there, I might as well change the cables.
Now the plan was to separate the cabling from the linkage on the shifter and check the free play. If it is stiff, then I know it is the control box not the cables. (Add grease and pray)
I know the cable that goes from the linkage on the engine to the outdrive is smooth because I tested that last year. Next is to disconnect both cables from the shifter linkage at the engine and forward control and move the cables back and forth to see if I really do need to go through all this work. So, the question is how I find what the proper length for my 89 Regal. 18.9 Medallion I/O
