New pontoon boat was delivered with 550 MCA battery. Motor calls for 1000 MCA battery.
Used boat all last summer, it cranked fine boat always seemed to barely turn over.
I had an older 1000 MCA that I charged up and put in this weekend. Turned the starter
over no problem, sounded very strong. Motor would not fire, could not smell gas , just
a big puzzle. Googled around yesterday read that a battery could be strong enough
to turn the starter but if the amperage dropped the motor would detect that and not
fire the fuel nor air injectors. Sounded goofy to me, but I bought a new 1000 MCA
yesterday, put it in, motor fired right up.
Thanks to whom ever did the original post.
PS. Talked with several mechanics non of which suggested that at all.
