Its an 02, Mercury 225 Optimax that has been a great motor. However when I had it serviced a year ago the oil alarm was beeping, 4x every two minutes, but it was right after a new upper oil tank was JUST INSTALLED. The technician came and checked everything with the new oil tank while we had it in the water, and the float sender, continuity, everything was fine, just beeping...so to fix it for the day we just disconnected the wires to the upper oil tank and it stopped beeping.... Fast forward 14 months later, no problems, it starts beeping again, 4x every two minutes, with the wires from the oiil tank in the wiring harness DISCONNNECTED. I took it to a certified mercury shop and they assured me the oil pump is working, theres not a clog, and oil is going everywhere it needs to be. However the diagnostic port they hook the computer up to is corroded and there is not way the computer can read the code. Ive driven it twelve miles with it beeping every two minutes, rpm's not restricted, but now the oil alarm has gone from beeping,.to a constant buzzing, and is restricting rpms, and the problem has to be fixed...Two Questions

1. Wiring harness for the motor is around $1200 installed, but all I need is the diagnostic port, Mercury technicians said they cannot just splice a new diagnotstic port on the wiring harness so the compurter can read it because they cant certify the work, but Ive had another technician tell me it would work, and if it only costs less than $100, why not try it if the alternative is replacing everything anyway. WOULD SPLICING A NEW DIAGNOSTIC PORT HEAD ON THE WIRING HARNESS MAKE THE COMPUTER BE ABLE TO READ THE PROBLEM?

2. What would be making the oil alarm go from beeping every 2 minutes to buzzing, if the oil tank wires are disconnected? When I first got to the shop they thought it was the tank, they replace so many of them theyre on backorder, but I was clear that the tank was not hooked up, and hadnt been for a year. The only other option was water in the fuei for 4x every 2 min, but they replaced all the filters, and the buzzing is an oil issue alone. WHAT WOULD BE MAKING THE OIL ALARM BUZZ SINCE THE UPPER OIL TANK IS DISCONNECTED, AND THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE OIL PUMP SYSTEM IS WORKING FINE? thanks in advance
