OptiMax Compressor

Has any one else been having problems with compressor breaking away from powerhead? <br />2.5ltr 175hp.

I've not seen it, but there a few bulletins concerning compressor end cap fasteners. They can fail and cause the compressor to "come apart". There may some newer bulletins; I only checked through 03

Compressor is fine, but the top mount ears are breaking and the bottom stud breaks in half at the exhuast cover. Then compressor spins out of control under engine cover until belt breaks.

I would next be concerned about the internal condition of the compressor. It's just a little powerhead; so all outboard rules apply, if it's cylinder scored, it may be siezing, it's also water cooled and outcome would be the same, however it has it's own temp sender, and you should get an alarm or fault code. Either way, if it's locking up--there's 175 horses trying to rip the thing loose.
