Im trying to help a buddy out. His boat has a 225h optimax in it that just crapped out its air pump. A chunk of aluminum broke out of the piston at the pin boss. The cylinder is still in pretty good shape. Getting parts for it is another story. The connecting rod w/bearings is available, but the piston is listed as NLA. A new pump is in the $1000 range when this one only needs $200 in parts. Calls to all the mercury dealers in the area hoping theyd have one in stock turned up nothing. No suprise, not a common part to stock.
The mercury part number for the piston is 828222A4 and normally costs around 150 bucks. Could the part just be superceded by a newer design? I dont understand how it couldnt be available anymore since this piston PN is the same on all of the optimax air pump parts diagrams i have looked at. There are many thousands of these things in service.
The piston manufacturer is ART. Think a call to weisco with the ART casting numbers (828222) could get me anywhere? ART is a big japaneese piston maker and i dread calling foregin companies just because of the language barrier.
