Howdy all,
I urgently need some advice on the following post as I am not sure how to tackle this issue.
I have just put my boat in for a service here is Aus and when I went to pick it up last week my "technician" told me that he could hear a knock coming of
from the compressor. He mentioned that the motor is running beautifully and that this was the only issue. I rebooked my boat in and the motor in question is a 2006 75HP ELPTO Optimax with a grand total of 300 hours on it.
I went in this morning to pick up my boat and he now tells me that the compressor is fine and it is now the motor that has the knock, he said it is only minimal and not of major concern yet. WTF, any issue with my boat and the potential to break down at sea is a major concern to me.
He said I could get 5000, 500 or 50 hours out of it but does not know. He suggested I trade it in for a new motor.
I am concerned that he does not know what he is talking about, my smart gauges have never indicated a fault with the motor and the only issue I have ever has has been faulty ignition coils which were replaced under warranty.
Can anybody tell me is this motor is prone to failing with this few hours on it, are there any tests I can get done to ensure that there is a fault or any other response would be hugely appreciated.
I am about to leave next week to go very remote to some islands to the north of Australia and the last thing I need is my boat breaking down!!
Thanks so much for your response.
