I have two very stupid questions. On previous outboards I have owned, I have alway used the muffs to clean out my motor of salt residue etc... Now, the new Optimax has a very convenient water port on the back of the motor. Sure enough, when you connect a hose, it starts to **** without starting the motor.

Here are the questions: Are you supposed to start the motor when using this water port? Is water actually getting to the water pump/impeller?

Re: Optimax 150

Water should 'back flow' to the water pump and wet the impeller.

Engine heat speeds the desolving accumulated salt crystals that may have been formed within the cooling system, however it is not mandatory that the engine be running.

Note, T-stats will not be open and it will take considerablely longer flushing with the engine off/cool.
