Optimax 115, sputter 2k to 3k rpms........ where to start

I just bought a used 2010 bentley. Everything works great. I just noticed a slight miss/sputter at 2k rpms to 3k rpms. My tach is wrong, and until I got it, it was proped wrong. I noticed the sputter before I changed the propeller. At anything over trolling or 1/3 throttle i get no sputters at all it runs great. So I just had to fill up for the first time, it was about 1/4 a tank, filled up with marine fuel no ethanol. I just want to know how to diagnose this issue. I know yall can help atleast point me in the right direction. I am not opposed to ripping the cover off and testing things. I am not what you would call mechanically inclined but...... I can get right into it and take my time. any help would be awesome.

these newer EFI motors can be very difficult to trouble shoot....maybe clogged injector/filter maybe bad sensor...there are about 6-8 things it could be, maybe more. replacement parts start at around $100 and go up well over $1k..find a good outboard mechanic that you can trust. simple things to check are filters, fuel for water, loose or bad fuel line/connection.

went back to dealer its under warranty so they will look at it and fix whatever the find.......... It was sold under the pretext EVERYTHING was working so they are at least holding true to there word. Only issue is I bought with no trailer so they have to come pick it up. So I am having them service it and clean pontoons. Its not a big deal I can only really notice it when I think about it.

Sputtering is not good.Make them fix it.Also get the service manual.Bring back the carbs,at least you can see whats going on.

well its a Direct injection motor so no carbs but I see what you mean, thanks.
