Wow, once you think about all that could have gone wrong that is a pretty amazing story!

Saw that on the news yesterday. Crazy that the dock and the boats were not destroyed. I went past the boat ramp at Raymond City and saw Lou Wedell's pontoon boat out running the river just below where they stopped the dock. I guess they were checking to make sure nothing came loose from the dock and continued down river. That could have been ugly if the dock would have hit one of the bridge piers or one of the coal or chemical bardges going upriver.

WOW! Very fortunate there was no major damage to dock, bridges, or boats!

I wonder if you can claim that as a salvage. :) That would be a nice payday. Can you amagine going down to check on your boat just to realize the boat and the dock was gone. lol

That's what I was thinking ... I'd have to double check the "bottle" I was drinkin' from.

If the towboat hadn't saved them, they would have surely been destroyed when they piled up on the Winfield Locks and Dam just a few miles down the river.
Kudos to that riverboat captain and crew for saving those boats!

What does a $2million dock look like? That would've been a fun day for the Shirley Captain. #Stressful.

Would've been funnier if someone was sitting on that dock fishing!

Depends on which state, most have laws allowing salvage rights. Some are pretty high like 10% of the appraised value of the boat. I recall a German family who's million dollar yacht got away from its mooring, it was salvaged and they happily paid the 5% . Seems mean to charge people, but it does entail some risk handling other peoples property. This German guy was thrilled to get his boat back without a hole in it and go on his way. I personally would never charge, but I'm not in the salvage business either. A salvage business gets called in by the CG they have a right to be paid for their time.
