Looking for feedback from any mercruiser 165 (Older Type 1) users regarding sucess or failure with different props. My drive gear ratio is 1.6 and top speed at wot (4000) is 31 mph. This is with a 15 by 15 prop. Boat is a 19.5foot hard top cuddy cabin weighing in at 2900 Lbs and is about as aerodynamic as a sheet of plywood on a motorcycle. I can swing a 14 by 19, loosing 500 rpm and run the same speed, 30 mph. I know the best is the WOT prop, but the 19 pitch has mega-bite and cruises smoooooth. Thoughts?
