Opinions wanted about 1994 40hp Force Outboards.

I am thinking of buying this used outboard with controls for $1,100. Was this a good motor?

Like most other motors they were as good as the maintenance they recieved. Just my opinion, but I've made even junk motors serve well by taking very good care of routine maintenance.

96 or newer the force is good but the older ones I am not sure about. Honda,Yamaha,Mercury,Evinrude,Johnson,Suzuki, are better the first 2 much better. I would hold out for a Force made by mercury or the others.

I have a 95 40 horse force, and right on the bottom of the cowling it says,BY MERCURY MARINE. If yours has this on it, it might be made by Mercury.
