I am repowering a 19' GW. It had a 120 4cyl motor. I am thinking of repowering with a 170HP 6cyl. Is this motor still made? How is it for getting parts? It is a 1986 model.

The I-6 is long gone there here and there but not as easy to get things for as the 4 cylinder motor

If you go with a bigger motor you will need to change the drive ratio to use the power correctly

If your changeing the motor TYPE there are allways a lot of problems with the small bits and pieces that will no longer be in the correct place unless you find a compleat used package with ALL the parts

And you will have problems with the motor mounts being in the wrong place

A v6 would be nice.
Outdrive gear ratio change
all new plumbing, bell, Y pipe, ect

Mr Bondo sometimes advises
a "Donor" boat with the engine
drive you want.

More power8)

Re: Opinions on which motor to repower

Thanks for the info. I guess I will be going with the 140 Mercruiser. Will the cutout on the transom be the same?
Can I use the transom brackets from my 120? I will be using the prealfa outdrive.
