Opinions on this tower for my SS

I found this tower browsing the web. It looks like a stronger, although more expensive, alternative to a ski pylon. I will need to get struts for my Bimini, but this would probably look ok on my old aluminum boat. Let me know what you think.

Looks like you could pull it right off the side deck.

So do you think a splash well/transom mounted pylon is my best and strongest option?

That would be my choice providing the transom loops are secure and the transom is solid.

I am going with a pylon. Now I am just Trying to figure out if I want to mount it on the floor just in front of the splash well doors or mount a shorter pylon on top of where the doors are.

Mine is mounted in the floor. The main post attaches to the plate/base, and the area under the floor is redundantly reinforced
incorporating the stringers. The remaining 2 legs of the tripod are lock'n'pin into the aft deck, once again reinforced.

I have a Swivel-eze model with the adjusting height main post. Measure the height from the floor to the top
of your engine cowl, then add 12" for clearance, at least and make sure a product is available pylon-wise

The concept was to have the boat pull the skier, not the transom

I do not have under floor access, so I was planning on doubling up the deck above the floor to reinforce the base plate mounting area. The the two support arms would mount to the area where the transom meets the splashwell. I also plan to weld a plate from the pylon to mount at the area just above the rear doors, reinforced from the back. I think that should be sufficient.

I was looking at the adjustable swivel-eze model too. It is adustable to 52" and says to allow for at least 4" outboard clearance.

sounds like a good plan

try to screw into the stringers with the floor doubling to gain strength

Thanks starman, anyway you could post a pic of your pylon setup? I went through your thread but didn't see any.

Don't have a picture, and the boat is winter storage

If you are going to add a layer of decking aft for the base, and lag screw the base into double wood,
that would be OK, I would use a piece that extends out from center all the way to the sides.

This way the load is spread because the main deck is attached to the stringers and outer ribs.

The two brace legs on the tripod will absorb the initial torque

Have Fun

I mounted properly the tower will work just fine.

The pylon I built for my old ss was up through the splashwell with two support arms running to the transom.
It was made out of conduit.
