Opinions on seating arrangement on my newly restored 1976 16’ SS

I finished my restoration last year in october. Never had a chance to splash it. i ordered 2 higher end wise seats last beginning of july, and they never came until halloween day. I also purchased 2 springfield seat posts
Well it turns out, my 6’6” is a little tall for a 12” model. I need a 9” model. It’s the shortest available by this manufacturer and i like the Springfield seat posts. They seem well made and stout. So the 12’’ driver seat will be replaced with the 9” model, bringing me down inside the boat a bit more.
i also need seating for the rear of the boat behind the captain and co-pilots chairs. But i want them moveable/removeable so i can access the storage under the splashwell, and gas tank etc. as 90% of the time it will be me and 1 other person. Either my wifey, or my fishing buddy. Only 10% of the time will it be more. At most it will be me, my wifey, her girlfriend and young 10 year old daughter.
so i’m seriously thinking of installing these seat posts
The issue is i’ll have to drill large holes in the floor. Once there are 2 holes in the floor, THAT’S IT. There are TWO HOLES in the floor! But this will allow me the ability to pull the seats and posts out of the way to get to storage, or the gas tank under the splash well, leaving very low profile seat bases which are impossible to trip on and take up no space. It will also give me the option to remove the seats completely for a large cooler/coolers behind the captains seat when it’s just my buddy and i fishing. Food, frosty beverages, and ice to keep caught fish fresh.

i also considered installing a bench type seat in the back but that would leave guests sitting tightly together behind me while under way, and most bench seats aren’t made to be removed.

I think most here will agree, the ‘plug in’ seat posts for the rear passengers will probably work best for me. Unfortunately i’m now stuck with a $115 12” seat post. This hobby is not cheap.

Anyone care to share pics of their seating arrangements or ideas??
Thanks!

Sounds similar to the seating I used on my ‘78 16SS. 4 plug in bases + 1 on the casting deck.

I'll be the contrarian who says that taller people should have taller posts so that they can sit comfortably with good balance and control, not shorter posts.

I have 4 hydraulic power pedestals with 238 bases. Make sure you use appropriate bases/pedestals/seats for the helm and for any seats used while underway.

I was going to do a drop away bench seat for the back of my boat, but that idea doesnt help you with access. But I like your idea of putting the seat on removable posts now! Thanks for the idea. For your situation, what @MNhunter1 did would probably work best for you.

I went with similar arrangement as @MNhunter1. Four in the back with one upfront in a removal front casting deck. That being said, I am 6' 2" and tried the shorter 9" seat pedestal. It didn't not work and I switched to the 12". Something to think about is guys our size will never get low enough for the windshield to work. I say that assuming your windshield is as low as mine. Plus I prefer being higher as it gives me a better view of everything and where I am going.

This has given me a lot to think about. Maybe i’ll keep the two seat posts i already purchased, install them, and just install two additional 12” plug ins for the back as originally planned.
It would be nice to be able to pull all seats and seat posts, especially the driver seat post in the event i need to get to electrics under the dash, but i suppose i could simply unscrew the seat post if necessary.
lots to think about.

My Springfield pedestals were swapped around pretty easily. I had a few different heights depending on if I had my kids or other adults along. The pedestals themselves are pretty cheap.

Good news and a big surprise. They will take my seat pedestals back. I’ll get store credit but immediately purchase 4 plug in seat post packages. I ordered them july of 2020. Going back to the store tomorrow.
