I finished my restoration last year in october. Never had a chance to splash it. i ordered 2 higher end wise seats last beginning of july, and they never came until halloween day. I also purchased 2 springfield seat posts
Well it turns out, my 6’6” is a little tall for a 12” model. I need a 9” model. It’s the shortest available by this manufacturer and i like the Springfield seat posts. They seem well made and stout. So the 12’’ driver seat will be replaced with the 9” model, bringing me down inside the boat a bit more.
i also need seating for the rear of the boat behind the captain and co-pilots chairs. But i want them moveable/removeable so i can access the storage under the splashwell, and gas tank etc. as 90% of the time it will be me and 1 other person. Either my wifey, or my fishing buddy. Only 10% of the time will it be more. At most it will be me, my wifey, her girlfriend and young 10 year old daughter.
so i’m seriously thinking of installing these seat posts
The issue is i’ll have to drill large holes in the floor. Once there are 2 holes in the floor, THAT’S IT. There are TWO HOLES in the floor! But this will allow me the ability to pull the seats and posts out of the way to get to storage, or the gas tank under the splash well, leaving very low profile seat bases which are impossible to trip on and take up no space. It will also give me the option to remove the seats completely for a large cooler/coolers behind the captains seat when it’s just my buddy and i fishing. Food, frosty beverages, and ice to keep caught fish fresh.
i also considered installing a bench type seat in the back but that would leave guests sitting tightly together behind me while under way, and most bench seats aren’t made to be removed.
I think most here will agree, the ‘plug in’ seat posts for the rear passengers will probably work best for me. Unfortunately i’m now stuck with a $115 12” seat post. This hobby is not cheap.
Anyone care to share pics of their seating arrangements or ideas??
Thanks!
