So, here is goes, I have got a new boat, to me, and will be taking it's maiden voyage tomorrow. Because it is 9'8" wide, needs a permit, and a nice launch, I'm only taking it to the lake once. SO, before I leave for the Holiday weekend, out on the open water, (providing it works and runs great) I was hoping to get some estimates.

The Boat is a 70 Uniflite hardtop sedan. Weighs 6K dry, it is powered by a single 360 chrysler inboard, velvet drive, 1.52-1.

I was hoping for a 10kts cruise, at 5-6GPH.

What do you guys think cruise and top speed/GPH will be? I just need a reference point besides my own uneducated guess. Where we are going is about 50 miles one way.

(Boat holds 100gal, and I am going to take another 66 gal)

It will depend on how it's propped, but that 360 should put out nearly 250 hp. I'd be surprised if you didn't do 20 knts.

Good luck!

20 knots? In a 28 footer? Wouldn't that be pushing it hard? LOL.

Maybe not, well see tomorrow.

Today, is boat day, just printed permit out, and grabbing my Gamin 540, and hitting the lake.............

I should D/C one tank, put a gallon in a can, and run a line to it and see how long it takes to eat that gallon.

Well, comfortable cruise, is 12kts, at like 2600rpm, or 8kts at 2200. It will run 24kts and 4300 with the 4bbls kicked in.

Still don't know how much fuel it is burning.

Re: Opinions on performance......

It IS fun, it rides real nice for a 28' boat, cuts right through the wakes, cant wait to get it out on the real water next weekend. I think the inboard is easier to dock than the I/O too, wayyy predictable, come in at an angle, reverse, and suck the rear into the dock on the port side, starboard side, will be a bit more tricky, I think.Probably have to come up, and spin it in place, or come straight in.

I didn't like the I/O) though, glad I got rid of it!

Not to mention this boat is faster, bigger, and uses less than 1/4 throttle to cruise at 12KTS.

Loaded, 7kts, at 1800rpm, nice cruise, OR 12kts, planing, at 3300rpm, with the 4bbls kicked in.

Burns less than 5gph at 7kts.

Burned 12 gallons in 45 minutes at 12kts loaded.

Needs more motor. Ran nice, put 27 hours on the hobbs meter, and burned less than a 1/2 quart of oil, only thing that went bad was the alternator relay, had to hook/unhook the alt everyt ime I started/shut it off.

Needs more motor.
Needs more motor.

I am going to keep my eyes open for a 300-330hp 6bta.

Two 300hp cummins would be sweet too........ Thing would go like 50kts! LOL
