Opinions on buying a new leftover boat

Just had a dealer call me with an offer for what I think is a good deal. It's an azure 24' deck boat. 5.7L fuel injected with dual SS prop. All covers / warranties / trailer / etc just as if buying new except this is a leftover that has never even been on the water. 0 hours. No usage period. They were asking 42K originally and will now take $35K

What do you think? Is this a good deal? Is there anything I should be leery of?

If it were me and i really wanted that particular boat i would make them a counter offer of about 31 or 32k. If they really want to make the sale they will jump on it..

Zero use, full warranty... if it's the style of boat you want, with the features you want, I'd say it's a great deal. Why pay a premium just to have this year's model if it's functionally the same?

I think it is the only way to buy a brand new boat. Last years model with no use at a significantly lower cost than this years. I guess I would think that they may still have some more wiggle room at $35k though. What is the actual MSRP? How far under the MSRP was the $42k?

42,000 x.20 = 8,200 42,000 - 8,400 = 33,600 after 20% depreciation, for year old model. of course it is new with 0 hours, full warranty. also the economy is going to make those higher price boats harder to sell.

I don't think I was clear enough. The boat is a leftover but it is a 2005. The original MSRP on this boat was a little over $55K. A 2008 MSRP of this same boat is just under $70K. The dealer was originally asking $45K but I offered $30K and at first they said no way and came back with $42K. That was a few weeks ago. Out of the blue the salesman called me today and offered it to me for $35K

I am thinking of splitting the difference at $32,500

Do you deduct 20 % for every year a boat is left over from? If so, that would mean I should offer around $28K.

This boat does have the trailer and full warranty

Thoughts???

Brass tacks,it is a brand new boat for half price, how can you lose?
When you decide to sell you will have a super low hour boat that will bring a higher price.
As a bonus Azure is a subsidiary of Bennington Marine so you know it will be right.
I don't see how you can lose.
There is my take.

i got a great deal on my sailboat in 1981 because nobody liked the TAN color which i loved ;)

So the only real question is what people do not like about it anything more than the color or is there a bigger issue:confused:

Whether it's a deal or not depends on how long you intend to own it. If you plan to own the boat four years or more its probably a good deal because at the end of those four years you have a seven year old boat with four years of use. When compared to other seven year old boats yours will be head and shoulders above the others. If you hate the boat and want to get rid of it in a year or two, you will have the same problem the dealer has. The economy, inability to finance a private deal, and lower demand will mean you have to cut the price as well. This boat is already three years old -- zero hours or not.
