Ok, found a deal on a 2000 Mercury 150hp. Don't know which model it is yet, waiting to hear back from the seller........Were there any problems with this year? Be it Optimax or not? We have a 1998 225 Optimax that is driving me nuts, blows a throttle coil every 5 hours or so.....grr.....Thoughts? I am trying to upgrade my motor because after reading numerous posts about the size of the motor in relationship to max, my 70hp falls short of the 150 max rating. Thanks for the help!

Ok you want an opinion, here's mine. ANY Merc 150, carb, EFI or OPTI would be a great choice. In my experience, they have all been excellent performers. My personal preference would be the OPTIMAX, hands down. Turn key start, teriffic fuel economy and the reliability has been outstanding. The only Opti's I've had any trouble with are the big ones (200-225), but that was only for a couple of years. I think Merc has the bugs worked out of those.

OK starting to sound like a salesman ( I HATE THAT!) and not a wrench, so I'll quit selling and stick to fixin.

Just an opinion (remember you asked!)
Dilli :)
