I'm looking to buy a 1986 Albermarle (27ft) and would like to get some opinions on price and the quality of the boat. The asking price is $45,000. Engines have been rebuilt in 2001 (300hrs). Boat is in slightly above average shape. Many electronics, but are kind of old. One main question is whether or not the boat is too old.

Albermarle made/makes good stuff, no question... However good quality aside, if I were spending that kind of money I would have the boat surveyed..

1986 is'nt too old... Many boats out there much older than that.. $45K might be a little high so get the survey done and then negotiate $$$$..

I have heard second hand in more than a few cases that the boat is over rated and this one sounds overpriced too!! Just my 2 cents. Charlie

My father and I just sold a 1989 27' Albemarle in the mid $30s. The boat was in great condition and had between 2500 and 3000 hours. Some of the electronics had been upgraded but she had a 1989 radar, fresh bottom paint. She also had a half tower with daul controls. Does the boat you are looking at have a "Jack Shaft". Albermarle had some problems with these in early models.

After rereading my reply, I guess I didn't really answer you basic question. Our boat receiced a lot of TLC and I don't think age of the boat was an issue. I would have any used boat surveyed and I think that $45 large is too steep even with rebuilt engines. What about the transmissions? I can tell you from experiance they are not cheap to rebuild.
