I have a 5.7 L mercruiser and was just wondering what the engine temperature should be when at idle, or underload.

If your motor is brand new (2002) you should have a 190 deg. F thermostat. Otherwise you will have a 160 deg. F thermostat.

It's a 96'. So if I have a 160 deg. is that what my temp gauge should be reading when engine is warmed up? Thanks for any input.

My 1999 V6 Mercruiser shows a constant 175* whenever the motor is warmed up.
