Hello, I am a novice duck hunter, and a new boat owner(not a new boat).
Can anyone tell me what precautions, or steps I should take to operate an Evinerude outboard motor in below freezing temps?
I have put a fair amount of work/cash into this motor and do not want to ruin it.
Any help will be appreciated.
Steve

duckey,

I've done it many times.

Just keep the foot of the motor in the water while you're out. DON'T lift it out. If you do, the water in the water pump will freeze.

Outboard powerheads drain completely when left in the vertical position.

Duckey, I haven’t had and problems with a cold start on the 25 or the 91/2 Johnson it just takes a few extra pulls. You will have fun busting ½” – 1” of ice in the morning. The fever is here……just a few more weeks. :)
