well I finally made my first act of stupidity for the summer. My girlfriend and I went on our annual week long camping-fishing trip to Lake Tomahawk in northern WI. I kept my boat in the water every night and locked all of the compartments to deter any theives. Well the problem didn't occur until we got back. I unlocked the rod compartment to borrow my muskie rod-reel combo to a friend. The next day my girlfriend and I decided to go fishing. We got the boat unloaded when I realized I forgot the darn keys!!! Luckily I had unlocked the rod compartment so we had our rods and the lures that were on them, and we used the trolling motor to get a little fishing in, so we managed to salvage what could have been a bad day. Luckily we didn't have a warden visit us because our life vests were locked up (oops)!!! We did manage to catch a few bass and I had a nice muskie come clean out of the water but miss my little bass buzzbait.

Re: oops

Nothing like having one of those warriors come out of the water and nail a topwater....though having one hit after doing a circle of eight really pumps the blood up another notch. Wouldn't be fishn if ya had a perfect day without any prolems one way or another..

Congradulations Wiguy, on making the best out of a bad situation. I bet your girlfriend really appreciated that. Now some of us :D probably would have thrown a fit, slung a few slur words, jumped up and down, making a spectacle of themselves :D which probably wouldn't help the next time asking your girlfriend to go with you.

Oh, and I know some  do this, just so they won't want to go with us.

Anyways good for you! Now make an extra set of keys ;)

GodsBeast

yes, an extra set of keys will definatly be going into the truck for these instances. One thing that I forgot to mention which was really a kicker was that it had been raining all day and I saw the sky clearing so I told her it was going to clear up by the time we got to the lake, which it did only to start raining again twenty minutes after we got out there. She just sucked it up though and sat in the back of the boat and fished. She said she didn't mind since we were catching fish.

Re: oops

not only a spare car key on your boat key ring but a spare boat key on your car key ring. on the fourth of july here the road between my house and where the boat was moored gets closed for two hours for the parade. wanted to fish instead of going to the parade and got to boat with seconds to spare befor the road got closed. of coarse, in my rush i had left boat key at home. not to be stopped i moved run wire to hot post on ignition switch and used multitool plier to jump from hot to start post for starting. good thing my engine starts very easily. a spare key would have made life much easier.

Welcome to the board Wiguy. Sounds like a great day. You definitely have to keep the girlfriend. Fishing in the rain without complaining. That is a rare fishing partner.

Lake Tomahawk. I have been through there but never been on the lake. There is a meat market there that has great beef jerky. Stop in and if you like hot, try the hot sticks too. Good place to get meat for the grill.
