Oops - wrong oil, can the gas be saved?

Yesterday I rushed myself and grabbed what I thought was my two-stroke oil and didn't realize that it was quicksilver gear lube (same color/shaped bottle) until after I added it. The oil color was even the same as TCW-3 oil. I did add the correct amount though. Anyways its only a 6.5 gallon tank, but it was 91octane at $2.81 a gallon, so I was wondering if the gas can be saved. What would happen if I ran my motor on lower unit oil? The gas appeared to be clearer with the gear oil. I don't want to do any damage, so I might just get rid of it.

Since it's only 6.5 gallons, I would get rid of it. I think gear oil could make a pretty big mess inside your engine. Maybe you could run it mixed about 20:1 with clean gas, but I don't think that would be worth the trouble...

Everytime you fill your vehicle, pour about a gallon in it after you fill up...

Stabilize it and use it in your lawnmower when the mosquitoes get thick. :)

Stick it in your car.

All at once if you top up the tank with regular gas - it won't do any harm. It won't even smoke.

I just don't know what to do with old 2 cycle outboard fuel.
If you put it down the drain, you might endanger the sewage treatment plant.
If you put it with the recycled oil, you might endanger the recyclers.
If you put it in your car or truck, you might damage your catalytic converter.
If you just leave it uncovered in the garden, you are probably pulluting the air.
If you have, or know someone who has, an older car or truck without a converter; they will probably
be happy to get some free fuel.

$16.86 vs $????.00 for rebuild. Your motor, your choice. Don't think its worth the risk myself.

thanks for the reminders - i have an old 1968 volvo that i don't drive too much. it needs 91 octane and lead substitute to not detonate & ping, so i bet some oil mixed in won't hurt it at all. no cat converter = no problem.

I vote for the volvo. Plus it will get a little extra top end lube. I bet you won't even notice any smoke.

Or use it in a lawn mower. It won't hurt.

The thought of the time spent mowing to burn up 6.5 gallons is depressing!

Same color? The TCW3 I buy has a bluish tint to it, and the LU lube is much lighter.

Besides which, I heard that 2-strokes were outlawed in CA?
