I have an 88, 5.0 The other day I hit a rather large drifting tree below the surface. It bent the stainless prop, damaged the skeg and bent the prop shaft. It also has a knocking in the rear of the engine, it looks like there is a rubber piece that is between the engine and transom that got tore apart. I also looked into the inspection cover on the top of the outdrive and didn't see anything wrong.
Any ideas what the knocking might be?
Any other ideas on damage?
how hard is it to replace a prop shaft?

Thanks for the input

Profile?? You might be close to someone who can help.
The coupler behind the motor is a bugger(gotta pull the motor). The knock could be the lower unit bad gears? Or the coupler banging.
Replacing the propshaft. It's easier to get a lower off e-bay/craigslist/Or get it rebuilt.
Without special tools your just throwing away $$
